Are you Hindu or Muslim?

Recently, we witnessed a cataclysmic event at home. This is the worst we have ever seen and we’re hoping nothing else like it ever repeats itself.

If you are from my country or have a good idea of our lifestyle and culture in India, you already know about the great divide between the Hindus and Muslims here. Though most of the educated people are found preaching about not being religious or racist and loving all humans equally, we never think of the same effecting our lives in more than just words.

So, a young Hindu lad in his early twenties brought home a Muslim gal he wishes to get married to. He announced his decision in a very plain matter-of-fact style but the reaction it created was a disaster!

“Have you gone mad? I never even eat in a Muslim restaurant and you dream of bringing one home?” said the eldest member of the family. His mom immediately ran to him and said, “Don’t just say anything. You know you can get killed for this!”

In my mind, I was thinking “Hell no! This is some stupid joke.”

But no, its not and this has left the family broken. Three months have passed since, the boy has left home for good and is now “living-in” with his partner. His dad recovering from a heart attack. Mother has stopped going to her “kitty-parties” and worries endlessly about her daughter’s future. She believes her daughter will have difficulty finding a suitor because of what her brother has done.

All of us at home have decided to “give it some time” (In our mind, hoping and wishing the relation will not last long). What would you do if your daughter/son,brother/sister decides to do the same?

As for me, I’ve just changed my religion status on Facebook from “Not religious” to “Hindu”.

CHANEL | PRE-FALL 2012

Chanel is absolutely giving it! Staying true to the Indian-inspired trend this Fall 2012 season, Karl Lagerfeld presented this “Paris-Bombay” collection today in Paris in a dazzling and luxe setting (in true Lagerfeld fashion). Runways framed by long tableclothed tables set with silver bowls, crystal, and candlesticks sat beneath dazzling chandeliers. Everything from the head jewelry to the choice of colors, pattern, and textures was superb. Absolutely gorgeous!

DATRI (www.datriword.org), the Indian bone marrow donor registry will have their kits at each of these venues to help you find out if you are THE MATCH! As a bonus, each drive can add dozens or even hundreds of new potential donors to the database — meaning your efforts will help not just Amit but a countless more find a match.

Plus, it’s REALLY EASY! DATRI is dedicated to helping anyone host a drive, and the test only takes a few minutes and a Q-tip-like swab inside the cheek. This is virtually painless, maybe less painful than donating blood.

What happens if you are THE one? Well then, your cells will help someone live- perhaps the best gift you can give ANYONE.

Donating blood cells is much simpler than it sounds the procedure is often misunderstood. All your questions about the same are kindly answered by the team at DATRI: Click:
